TechFlash: Twitter expert joins venture firm

    Madrona has picked a winner in Damon Cortesi. He's smart and productive. It will be interesting to see what sorts of ideas come out of this marriage of venture capital and Twitter application expertise.

    Madrona has clearly jumped the shark.

    Bevy, Zero260, now a Twitter EIR. What are these guys thinking?

    I would love it if someone (hint, hint?) would write a piece on the function of EIRs and how the deal they get is either good or bad for both them and their VC. I have a friend who was an EIR for a huge VC in the Bay Area and he personally brought in five substantial deals that got funded. His equity stake reward for that? Zero. Not even a single point. I realize there are other benefits to being and EIR, but when I heard that, it made me wonder if every EIR deal was like that, and if so, if that's a fair setup to someone who is obviously talented and connected enough to bring in such business.

    I love the idea of VC's acting as "patrons" for talented people like Damon. Madrona is doing a great service to the startup community by helping promising entrepreneurs bootstrap their new ideas before they've taken the plunge as founders.

    Great choice Madrona! You couldn't find a smarter EIR. I can't wait to see the cool Twitter stuff coming out of Madrona now.

    Damon's a rockstar, Madrona made an excellent choice. Congratulations to both! :-)

    @JohnCook

    What is the sense of the hiring posture for PNW tech companies for the year? Director- to C- level

    1) plans to hire on hold
    2) pending to upgrade
    3) pending to cut back
    4) pending to add
    ... etc.

    Let's get a poll going. Madrona is making some early bets, UWTT is making the case to expand.

    There are stories to report on but there is also perceptions and outlooks that need to reported on, or surveyed.
